Conserve Water

Regional Water Conservation

In April of this year, the Sonoma County Water Agency requested a voluntary 10 to 15% reduction in water use from municipal customers and the agricultural community through immediate implementation of voluntary water conservation measures. This voluntary reduction was triggered by low rainfall this season and a reduction of water diversion from the Eel River to the Russian River through the Potter Valley Project.

On May 22nd, the Santa Rosa City Council adopted Santa Rosa Resolution #26841, requesting that customers use water efficiently, eliminate water waste, and reduce less essential uses of water to achieve a voluntary reduction in water use consistent with the Sonoma County Water Agency's request.

Top 10 Ways to Reduce Water Use
1. Reduce irrigation by 20% through the use of Turf-Time information
2. Find and repair leaks now
3. Inspect and tune-up irrigation system monthly
4. Irrigate between midnight and 6:00 a.m. to reduce water loss from evaporation and wind
5. Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways, decks or patios
6. Use a bucket and a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle when you wash the car, or take your car to a carwash that recycles water
7. Cover pools and hot-tubs to reduce evaporation
8. Use front-load washing machines(apply for a rebate)
9. Run the dishwasher and clothes washer with full loads only
10. Prevent and report water waste
